AREAS OF SPECIALIZATION
After a thirty-two year career in public education, Linda is bringing her grant writing skills to Green Team Coalition. During her time as a teacher, Gifted and Talented Coordinator and administrator for several middle schools, she has written and been awarded multiple grants. Linda took on the responsibility of grant writing to support and sustain a Gifted and Talented program for Huron Valley Schools from 1991-1996. She has also successfully been awarded grants for technology, at-risk student interventions and classroom equipment from 1999-2009.
Ms. Foran is a Founding member, co-chair and current committee member for “Religious Diversity Journey”: a program supported by Michigan Round Table for Diversity. Beginning in 2004, this program is designed for seventh grade students in six Oakland County school district with the goal of fostering understanding and appreciation of the major religions found in the Detroit area. She has presented at many different conferences and workshops including Oakland County Public Schools Third Annual Best Practices Conference in 2008 and the Religious Diversity Symposium in 2004. She is currently a member of National Association of Secondary School Principals, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, American Association of University Women, and Teaching Tolerance: Southern Poverty Law Center.
In her free time, Ms. Foran is President of Huron Valley Community Theater and has co-authored the script and written all the music for an original musical that was produced in 2009.
Ms. Foran graduated with a Specialist of Arts: Educational Leadership, from Eastern Michigan University in 1993. She was on the National Dean’s List in 1992 and 1993 and received an award for High Academic Achievement in 1993. She received a Master of Music: Choral Music Education from the University of Michigan in 1987 and was on the National Dean’s List in 1988. Ms Foran also earned a Bachelor of Music: Choral Music Education from the University of Michigan in 1977, earning Academic Honors in 1976 and 1977.
In Clarkston, Michigan, she earned two Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary Schools Awards as the principal of Clarkston Middle School (2004) and Sashabaw Middle School (2008). Under her leadership, Sashabaw Middle School moved forward as a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and Ms. Foran attended extensive training in PLC work from 2005-2009. She also has attended yearlong workshops on Dialogue and Discussion and the Facilitation of Meetings. In 2007-2009, Ms. Foran was an item writer for Language Arts test questions for Oakland Intermediate School District. She gained her certification in Choice Theory in 2001 and the certification as a Basic Practicum Supervisor in 2002. Finally, she was nominated in 1994 and 1997 for “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.”
